Turning Stone Casino Resort overview
Turning Stone Casino Resort in Verona, New York became New York State’s first and only land-based casino when it opened in 1993. In fact, it wasn’t until 2002 when the Seneca Niagara Casino in Niagara Falls opened its doors that Turning Stone had any competition inside the state.

The resort and casino is owned and operated by the Oneida Indian Nation. It has been able to host legal gambling on the site for almost 25 years under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act and a gaming compact between the State and the Nation.

New York’s first land-based casino
Turning Stone Casino Resort originated as a High Stakes Bingo hall on Oneida land in 1985. The Turning Stone Casino opened in July 1993 on a 400-acre parcel Oneida Nation Lands in Verona and the Bingo operation moved over. The gaming floor was further expanded in 2002. A remodel was finished in early 2017. The main gaming floor became smoke-free in November 2016. At that time, Turning Stone added a new air filtration system and opened up Casino Blu within the existing gaming floor for smokers.
Verona is in Central Upstate New York. The largest city nearby is Syracuse. In fact, Turning Stone Casino Resort can be found off Exit 33 on the New York State Thruway.

Turning Stone Casino Resort has developed into a massive full-service resort and casino over the past 20 years. In fact, it now boasts more than 120,000 square feet of gaming space. The casino includes:

Two identical bills which would legalize and regulate online poker in the state of New York were introduced into the New York Senate and Assembly in the first quarter of 2017. Westchester Assemblyman, J. Gary Pretlow, who introduced one of the bills, claims there is very little standing in the way of such legislation. In fact, he said all of New York’s licensed casino and Racino properties have indicated they support it.
This would presumably include the Turning Stone Casino Resort, which currently hosts one of the largest Poker Rooms in the state. In fact, Turning Stone has a long and storied history of hosting major poker events. This includes the long-running Empire State Hold’em Championships.
